Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, …..”
What it is:
It is a time of presenting a child to the Lord through prayer. It is solely based on the desire of the parents to bring their child before God for His blessings through raising the child in a godly manner. Parents recognize that their child is a gift from God, and it is therefore their responsibility to diligently love and teach the child under God’s leadership.
It is also a time when parents bring their desires before the church body, and the congregation echoes their desire, making a commitment to share their burden, to encourage the parents, to love and care for the child, and most importantly to teach the child with the Word of God, so that they may grow into a man or woman of God. In this way, both the parents and the church make a mutual commitment to work hand-in-hand to nurture the child.
What it is not:
It is not an Infant Baptism, for our church believes baptism is a believer’s ordinance, meaning that only those who believe in Jesus as their personal Savior may be baptized.
It is not an implication that through the Prayer of Dedication that the child will be saved. A person is saved only through believing Jesus, as God, who died for his/her Sin.
It is not a commitment for the child to be a minister or missionary when he/she is grown up. The response to such Callings is made when a person is old enough to make the decision on his/her own.
We believe parents are the primary disciplers of their child’s faith journey. We invite parents to partner with us at the nursery so you can witness your little one’s first steps of faith and see how they interact with God’s family. It’s a wonderful way for us to support one another and be equipped as the parents God called us to be.
