This month’s missions focus is our missions partner InterVarsity - Derek and Chelsea Jung. Derek grew up at BACBC and attended Chico State where he answered God’s call to full-time service. Derek and Chelsea coordinate and oversee ministry on 8 college campuses in Northern California and Southern Oregon.

Derek and Chelsea Jung share the following update. At Shasta College, we have been praying for an increase in students. The pandemic and a sharp drop in enrollment the past couple of years resulted in sparse student involvement. This past Fall, we saw the Lord answer our prayers with over 40 student participants and eight students becoming new believers!

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (Northern CA, Southern OR) – Derek and Chelsea Jung took 17 students from NorCal and 5 staff to Mark Camp at Catalina Island during Spring Break. The breakdown was: 3 non-Christian students, 4 Latinas, 3 Community College students, and 5 first generation college students.

Derek and Chelsea Jung were blessed with baby Isaiah in December. During the summer, a major fire disrupted the peace in one of the cities where they serve. A staff member, Kalia, was inspired to use the opportunity to bring joy and hope to the campus.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (Northern CA, Southern OR) – In the past 6 months, Derek and Chelsea Jung have visited campuses, encouraged leaders, and prayed with partners, including a college in Klamath Falls. They hosted multiple meals every week to foster community for students.

Derek completed 5 years with InterVarsity last month. Both Derek and Chelsea have accepted new leadership roles within IV: Chelsea as Associate Area Director of Planting and Staff Development (targeting unreached campuses!) and Derek as Leadership and Scripture Coordinator
