Church Update and Encouragement

Encouragement

Dear Church Family,

During this pandemic, there is a common question: “God is all-powerful and all-loving, so why doesn’t He stop this coronavirus?” As followers of Christ, how would we respond to this kind of argument?

Ravi Zacharias, a Christian apologist, wrote, “The question of pain and suffering provides the greatest challenge to belief in God.”

Adam and Eve sinned, and as a result, sin entered the world. The consequence of sin includes suffering, pain, and death, which is why suffering exists in the world today. God is all-powerful and all-loving; He did create a world in which love could exist. However, human beings sometimes chose not to love. One author writes, “Ever since Adam and Eve fell, members of the human community have been thoroughly committed to their own well-being regardless of the cost to others.”

Through Job's great suffering, he and his friends tried to find reasons for his intense pain—but they failed. Job continued to question God. At the end, he found his answer, as he said, “I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear,” and he finally admitted, “But now my eye sees you.” (Job 42:5)

Before, Job’s knowledge of God was second-hand, by hearing and learning, but later he gained first-hand knowledge—a converting experience. His personal experience was like actually seeing God, and not just hearing. Many of his questions had not been answered, but they were no longer burning issues. Job had been transformed.

We may not have an answer for this pandemic. But like Job, the answer may no longer be an issue. We just need to trust that God is in complete control.
