Church Update and Encouragement

Encouragement

Dear Church Family,

How can we stay happy and not gloomy? Paul set himself as an example: he was able to keep on rejoicing whether he was in prison or in palace, in prosperity or in adversity, in good health or in sickness. “Take it to the Lord in prayer” is his key teaching.

"Rejoice in the Lord always: again I will say, rejoice. Let your forbearance be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." Philippians 4:4-6

During this pandemic, we are dealing with a lot of uncertainty. To care is one thing. To worry is another. Paul exhorted the Philippians to prayer instead of anxiety. Four words are used here: prayer, supplication, thanksgiving, requests. Let us put our trust in God and take it to the Lord in prayer. And the peace of God will guard our hearts and thoughts, even beyond our ability to comprehend.

Update

We had about 50 church members attend the Zoom Town Hall. It was great to see many of our brothers and sisters in Christ, as least in picture! We want to remind you the upcoming virtual annual business meeting is coming up on August 16 at 11:15 am. We hope all members will join and it would be a joy to "see" all of you!

The Alameda Chamber of Commerce has asked us to be on a panel of non-profits (their 7th such hosting) to share how we are doing during the pandemic. Pastor Steve will be representing us at 1 pm this Wednesday (Aug 5). You can register at https://bit.ly/3grWlHd.

Church Resource

This is an upcoming webinar hosted by the National Association of Evangelicals.

As parents and educators continue to prepare for the back-to-school season during COVID-19, how can the church help? What impact has the pandemic had on the mental and spiritual health of children and teens? What is the church’s role in addressing those needs, both at home and through the church?

In this Town Hall webinar, experts will share insights and answer questions looming in many church leaders’ minds. Panelists include Ryan Frank (KidzMatter), Beth Cunningham, Psy.D. (Florissa Center), and Pam King, Ph.D. (The Thrive Center for Human Development, Fuller Graduate School of Psychology).
